Merzouga/ Merzouga
9:00
Your adventure begins with a morning pick-up at your hotel or riad in Merzouga or Hassilabied. After a short introduction to your KTM 450 bike, you begin your ride into the vast Erg Chebbi dunes — some of the highest red sand dunes in Morocco.
You will explore beautiful and hidden oases such as Tsardmine, Azrkam, and finally Saf Saf Oasis, a peaceful green corner in the middle of the golden sands. Along the way, you’ll enjoy a picnic lunch with a stunning view of the dunes and desert horizon.
By evening, you’ll return to your riad in Merzouga or Hassilabied for a warm dinner and well-deserved rest.
After a local Moroccan breakfast, you head 15 km into the desert to the abandoned M’fis mines, where black khol, lead, and zinc were once extracted. These materials were used in traditional makeup and art. Walking through the old mining area gives you a glimpse into Morocco’s industrial past.
Your next stop is Hugar Mountain, where you’ll visit a Berber nomad family. You’ll meet the family, see their tent lifestyle, and learn how to make traditional Berber pizza, cooked over a fire. This hands-on cultural experience is a favorite for many travelers.
Later, you ride to the Dunes of Znigi, crossing breathtaking desert paths. As always, you return to your riad in the evening for a hot meal and rest.
Today is the highlight of the ride — the Paris-Dakar Rally route.
After breakfast, you hop on your KTM to tackle over 50 km of desert terrain, including dune crossings, rocky trails, and fast flat tracks. This is the exact route once used in the legendary Paris-Dakar Rally, where only the toughest riders competed.
You’ll also stop by a nomad family camp deep in the dunes, where you can share tea, learn about desert life, and enjoy a picnic lunch in the open Sahara.
You finish the ride in the late afternoon and return to your riad for a final evening of comfort and Moroccan food.
On the last day, the ride slows down, allowing you to appreciate the peaceful side of the desert.
You will visit the Lake of Merzouga (also known as Dayet Srij), which is home to migratory birds like flamingos, especially in winter. Then, head to the Palmeraie of Eissani, an oasis filled with palm trees and traditional irrigation channels. This is one of the oldest water systems in Morocco.
On your way back, you’ll pass through Erfoud, famous for fossils and dates, and ride through quiet Berber villages before returning to Merzouga by evening.

I had the most incredible time on the 4-day KTM desert adventure with Morocco Motorcycle Tours. From start to finish, everything was perfectly organized, and the team made sure we felt safe and excited throughout the entire journey. The KTM 450 bikes were in excellent condition, and riding through the towering red dunes of Erg Chebbi was absolutely thrilling!
Each day brought new surprises—visiting ancient fossil sites, discovering hidden oases, and sharing a delicious Berber pizza with a welcoming local family. The ride along the old Paris-Dakar Rally route was the highlight for me—so fast, fun, and full of adventure! Our guides were professional, knowledgeable, and friendly, and they clearly love what they do.
The riad we stayed in was clean and comfortable, with delicious food served every evening. I also appreciated how the tour mixed adrenaline-filled rides with cultural experiences and moments of relaxation. This was more than just a motorbike trip—it was a deep dive into the stunning beauty and rich culture of southern Morocco.
If you’re looking for a unique and exciting way to explore the desert, I highly recommend this tour. I’ll definitely be coming back!
