Itinerary of 4 days Atlas and Desert moto tour from Ouarzazate

Day 1: Ouarzazate » Boumalne

Departure on an old track turned into a road but still resembling a track in many places. Due to limited resources and nature always reclaiming its rights, it will once again become a track in some time! Taking control of the motorcycles and enjoying magnificent mountain landscapes, passes, villages, and gorges. After a few hundred turns and conquering 2 passes, we descend onto the southern slope of the Atlas Mountains. The greenery gives way to a rocky landscape. Here begins six days in the desert, but in Morocco, this always means colors, diversity, hospitality, and warmth. Our first off-road track takes us through the base of Mount Mgoun, leading to a break in the heart of the Skoura palm grove. After resuming the road, we follow a new track on the left bank of the Dades River. We pass by the already very isolated villages in an ochre-colored setting until we reach Boumalne Dades, where we join the road to our accommodation at the entrance of the gorges.

Day 2: Boumalne» Zagora

This stretch is one of the most beautiful in our routes. Even though it’s not very challenging, it requires good physical condition throughout the crossing of the Djebel Saghro. It’s an unforgettable and awe-inspiring moment, this mountain pass along a ridge amidst immense and almost eerie volcanic formations. One could believe that a giant came here to craft an organ from lava, and unsatisfied with his work, started over dozens of times, a unique spectacle in Morocco and perhaps in the world. After the excellent meal break, the desert and the magnificent, easily navigable track that eventually runs alongside the Draa Valley to Zagora, our stage.

Day 3: Zagora »M'hamid » Erg Chegaga

After breakfast, we take a ride to the top of Jbel Zagora, a nearby 300-meter mountain that offers breathtaking views of the Draa Valley to the north and the desert to the south. On former Rallye tracks, where you may practice maintaining control of the bike at high speeds, we then travel south. Before setting out on the swift and supple tracks that go west to the Chegaga sand dunes, we stop for a picnic lunch while refueling the bikes. We enjoy some cool drinks and the shade of the restaurant tent when we first arrive at the bivouac before later that afternoon venturing out onto the dunes for some dune practice. The evening meal will be served to you in the bivouac, along with a campfire and Tuareg drummers’ entertainment.

Day 4: Erg chegaga »Zagora » Ouarzazate

Pause for a photo under the sign ‘Tombouctou 52 days on foot,’ and then set off into the vast desert region that runs alongside Djebel Bani, a long massif that serves as the last natural barrier before the Sahara. Heading northward, we will cross the Anti Atlas Mountains through the magnificent terraces that lead to the copper mines of Bleida and Bou Azer. After a complete traverse of the high plateau, where numerous herders can be found, we will continue on the winding road we enjoy until we reach Ouarzazate.
